Over during world war 2, the Russian soldiers would get little medaillions for around their neck that they could put a note with their name, birthplace and closest relatives' adress on. In case they got killed, the relatives could be contacted. The medaillions were water, fire, and everything else resistant. They're still finding intact medaillions in places where heavy battle went on.
Anyway the soldiers considered it really bad luck to fill in those medaillion notes. Apparently, that was a nearly sure way of getting killed.
