Hey guys, just wanted to remind ye geeks to keep current on yer backups!
Mom's boyfriend and some other people with VERY current norton scanners installed have had to format their disks this weekend because of a new virus that nobody seems to know anything about yet, it's not anywhere on the sites as far as I know but it is destroying people's computers.
THe good news: a semi-destructive format often does the trick as well in getting rid of it.
The bad news: it sometimes doesn't and then it's spring cleaning time with format c:\
The virus goes to wipe all dll files, security and system directories from your harddisk, or at least make them very very corrupt. You don't notice until the next startup, at which point, it don't start up.
I've no idea how you get it, either.
So best is to update your backups and stuff, better safe than sorry.
