....yes, I realise that WMV is a Microsoft bastardized version of MPEG-4 that they're trying to push as a new 'standard'.
However, if your vid codecs are up to date, anything will play it with an extension of .mpg Irfanview as an example, even with the WMV extension disabled.
So here's another tip for those who have things. Ever find those vids that are in multiple parts? Purportedly for "faster download times"? Well, if they're .mpg/.mpeg, save them to a DIR. Make sure they're in sequence, then start WinZip (if you ain't got it, you suck). Start a new archive, and then ADD all of the parts, in REVERSE order and all at once to the archive. Close WinZip. Go to the DIR where you saved the archive, and change the .zip to .mpg
There, all together now. Thank me later with cake!
