A very good point! L
A very good point! Luckily, one of my favorite tveseilion shows is a sci-fi/fantasy, with more racial diversity Futurama! 4 main characters are male vs. 2 female, but there is a lot of diversity! Male robot, elderly man, average white guy, Jamaican family, female chinese grad student and an ass-kicking cyclopes (mutant) woman. It may not be as gender equal, but you have to admire the creativity of the writers for their diverse cast. Diversity in science fiction should be more encouraged considering the genre lends us such openness and unlimited options!I think your next step should be incorporating a variety of ages (or abilities). Of course, I know YOU could easily add an elderly character that is more than a sweet old grandmother or lonely old spinster. And why not a blind or deaf character that uses technology to enhance their lost sense? I recall a bad-ass wheelchair chick from The Guild that used her disability to her own advantage. And a young teenage boy who's eyes were digital/computer controlled in a book called Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card. In short, as a very talented writer, I'm excited to see where your creativity in characters leads you! :)
