I think Firefly did it about as well as possible. I like the laegrr arcs that were being told, but it fell well short of being a serial. Perfect. If I could make a Space Opera show, I'd like to see it be more like the Revelation Space universe from Alastair Reynolds. Actually, I'd just see if I could get the rights and adapt it as faithfully as I could. Take a season per book, I'd throw Chasm City in there too. If I had to do one on my own, I'd probably screw it up.
