I mean, come on. Everyone who is slightly serious about online business has a paypal account. Your worrying about scams and security are just indications that you are getting old - you don't dare to take a little risk any more in life. And the risk is minimal, considering they have better protection programs than other credit card companies. Plus it's safer since you don't have to give out your payment details to anyone other than the Paypal computers.

And by the way, scams will always exist. The thing is to use your common sense and not fall for them. It's like seeing a sign at a gasstation that says; coke 49c. 2 for a dollar. Well duh, you're not that stupid.*
