Email I just received from college:
"We have received approval from the Privy Council of the United Kingdom to become a University College and I am delighted to tell you that we will officially adopt the full title of 'York St John University College' on 1 February 2006.
The name change follows York St John being granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAP) in September of 2005.
...
We are now currently undergoing the next stage of assessment and scrutiny in the run up to application for full 'University' status. I look forward to contacting you again in the future with news of this application."
York St John University College, woohoo! I think they were starting to work on this when I started here, it's nice that it should happen before I live.
And even better, it's all happening just too late for me so I still get the (more prestigious) University of Leeds degree ;0)
I have no idea what, in practical terms, the name change will mean. But it sounds better. Finally I'm a university student at an institution with "university" in its name :0)
