I quit after 30 years, and here is how I did it.1. You must be serious about qtiuting. You must understand that there will be times when you have cravings, but you also must convicnce yourself that they will pass.2. Know the facts. There are 2 addictions: mental and physical. Nicotine stays in your body for 72 hours. Thats is the worst time physically. After th first 72 hours, the body gradually stops craving over the next 10 days. The mental addiction is much harder. Thats the part that associates smoking with pleasurable events. Having one with coffee, or drinking, or after a meal. you have to change your routine to avoid those associations. Instead of hot coffee, dring ice coffee. You still get your caffeine, but it tastes different. Try not to drink, but if you do, dont have what you normally have. If you drink scotch, switch to vodka. Dont linger after a meal, immediately do something.3. Avoid people that smoke. It tempts you into believing its ok.4. If you have a serious craving, take a shower. Rarely do you think about smoking when in the shower, and if you do, you cant smoke there anyway. Since most cravings only last 10 minutes, it will be over when you towel off.5. Reward yourself. Smoking is expensive. Take the money you spend every week, and save it for something you really want.6. Quit on a Friday night. You will be light headed and spacy the first couple of days, and not being at work makes it easier to cope.7. If the first day is too hard, dont give in, buy nicotine gum or lozenges. That will help you end the mental addiction, be still giving you a nicotine hit. Just dont stay on the gum more than a month.Good luck!
