Hi Heather. I too was surprised to learn how many diernffet anemias there are when I went to medical school. Sometimes its hard even for medical providers to figure out what kind of anemia a patient has. Just fyi .folic acid anemia and vitamin B12 anemias are types of megaloblastic anemias because they both cause abnormally large red blood cells (hence the word megaloblastic ).
