I 'only' have myopia and astigmatism, and my lenses still cost me hundreds of pounds.
Admittedly, I have them thinned but to be completely honest I'm not sure not having them thinned would even be an option anymore. They're now as thick as they were before I started having them thinned. And the technology has improved since then so they're being thinned more than they were (I'm at the second thinnest you can get them, the thinnest would have meant sending the frames to Germany and I was moving to Finland very soon.)
So yeah, I can completely understand having expensive glasses when you're 'only' short-sighted and astigmatic.
