I really enyjoed Module 4. I find the heart facinating and I'm amazed at how smart it is. The timing of the valve opening and closing, all working in sync with each other, and in under a second is impressive. We have no idea what amazing machines our bodies are, and unfortunately we don't take the best care of them. I loved learning more about high blood pressure in this chapter. My father has primary hypertension and was having a couple of surgeries this spring. He is on medications for his hypertension but when he went into surgery his blood pressure rose to the high 200 s over the mid 1oo's. Very scary and eye opening. He was sent to an nephrologist, which is a doctor that specializes in the kidneys. I had no idea that blood pressure was related to the kidneys. The doctor made changes to my dads medications and put him on a low sodium diet of 1000mg or less of sodium a day. It worked, his blood pressure came down nicely and was in a good range for his next two surgeries. Do you have any idea how much sodium is in our foods? I didn't and shopping became a very long process of label reading. Eating natural non processed foods are the best choices. Taking care of this gift of life and the amazing body we have been given is something we should take more seriously. After reading this chapter it sure makes me want to make some changes!
