The section I found most ittnreseing wasn't the section on disorders of red blood cells but the section on white blood cells. My favorite being neutropenia. I was surprised to learn that neutropenia was a common complication from medications used to cancer treatment. Medications used to treat cancer suppress the immune system so the cancer cells are unable to grow. By suppressing the immune system it also suppresses the bodies ability to protect itself naturally. Severe neutropenia can cause fever, skin inflammation, liver abscesses and infection in the blood. People with severe neutropenia might be hospitalized to isolate them from the possibility of infection.
