So where we had a peasant peolpe cocooned and protected by a rich popular culture now we have a mass of frustrated proles who were taught to aspire to things they’ll never really have.That describes modernity in a nutshell: the endless internal competition for things that very few peolpe actually need. It reminds me of the Christmas shopping frenzy that went on recently where peolpe flocked to stores to buy novelty gadgets and trendy electronic items.
