Amazing how anemia is a coommn blood disorder. I had no idea that level of anemia correlates with the severity of renal disease. This is why it's important to have routine labs and screenings done yearly. Most providers screen for anemia in infants at their nine month well baby check up. The test is called a hemogram and if anemia is detected the provider may suggest a liquid iron supplement for the patient. As a phlebotomist I see a diagnosis of Anemia daily and the blood test consistent with this diagnosis are usually; Complete Blood Count, Vitamin B12/Folic acid, Iron & Tibc, Ferritin.
