Chapter 5 discusses the diassees of the blood such as anemias, platelet disorders and leukocyte disorders. I found quite a bit of useful terminology in this chapter such as hemoglobinopathies, which is where the structure, function or production of hemoglobin is affected causing disorders such as sickle cell anemia and thalassemia. What I found most interesting in this chapter was how many different types of anemia there are, folic acid anemia, vitamin b12 anemia and megaloblastic anemia just to name a few. While most anemias can be treated, the disorders involving leukocytes seem to be much more detrimental to one's health and treatments are more severe. Once again I am reminded of just how important it is to watch what we eat.
