Iron Deficiency Anemia was most interesting for me in moulde 5. I hadn't realized the prevalence of this deficiency in children before reading this chapter. Children with iron deficiency is most commonly caused by a lack of enough iron in their diets to keep up with their growth. This makes sense to me. Watching my youngest grandchild when he goes through a growth spurt, all he wants to do is sleep. As a young adolescent growing up and starting my menstrual cycles was hard on my body. I remember my father having to take me to the emergency room once because I had lost a great amount of blood during one of my cycles. This was the first time I had heard the term Iron Deficient Anemia , I was 17 at the time and my blood count was really low. I had this problem frequently as a young adult. Iron replacement with supplements has always been a problem for me. Iron hits my stomach about as well as aspirin, very badly! I finally went to a liquid form of iron that I had a lot of success with. You just have to get it past the nose and taste buds. I have since quit supplementing my iron intake. My menstrual cycle problems subsided greatly after the birth of my first child.I hadn't heard of Vitamin B12 Deficiency Anemia before this chapter either. My husband gives my mother and I both B12 complex by injection. We both get more shots in the summer because it helps with bug bites like mosquitoes, they do not like blood with B12 complex. B12 complex is also a good supplement for other things too.
