Hi guys (and ladies, should you really wish)!
So, last night we had this documentary on TV about
the 30 years' history of S.A. television. Or, lets
be honest, was supposed to have seen 1. What we got,
was something else.
For some1 that's not familiar with internationl politics,
pre-1990 South Africa had a political system called "apartheid"
(seperation) of races. In 1994 we got Nelson Mandela as the
first black S.A. president, and so on and so forth. However, that
is not the point.
In the "documentary," everything pre-1994 and anything "white
Afrikaans male" is described as bad. Yes, even the decision to
bring TV into the country. They also made the suggestion that
the SABC (the network) was guilty of being "His Master's Voice"
for the then regime. And then they continue to describe the
Afrikaans, white percentage of the country as bad (evil?) and
continue villifying the old times and people. And turning
the "freedom fighters" into heroes, making the statement that
they MUST BE BLACK.
Now, what is my problem, do you ask. I am white, Afrikaans, male
and DID NOT support Apartheid. Some of my friends are black and
coloured. But not only that, there were quite a few inroads made
by the "old regime" and if that was "His Master's Voice", what is it
now?
I'm just angry that politics must marr the celebration of something
good, and must be such an obstacle in the path to freedom & equality.
