Can't We All Just Get Along??? The other day, I stopped by my frovaite bagel joint while out running errands. It was Saturday and the day just seemed perfect for a coffee, toasted bagel and load of cream cheese. The place was packed. 9am on a Saturday and every person in the area was at the local Manhattan Bagels! I see the crowd and my enthusiasm wanes just a bit until I smell the undeniable aroma of toasted bagels. At that point, my growling stomach took over and i resigned myself to the wait in line.You know how you go the counter, order your bagel, pay and step away? That's how it's done, right? Well, not this morning. Here's what happened....Some lady in her what I can only call her Saturday morning get up of jeans, boots, crisply ironed blouse, big hair and huge sunglasses, places her order, pays and stands there. Even after the counter person asked for the next person, Big Glasses stands planted to the very spot with her hands atop of her huge bag that rested on the counter top.The next person, being polite I guess, talked around her, placing his order, handing over his money and stepping aside. This went on for a couple of people while I watched waiting for someone to please say something, wondering if her order would arrive and get her out of the way before my turn. I kept watching to see where her bagel was and would they please hurry....when...a young mother carrying a sleeping toddler was next. She simply walked up to the counter, nudged Big Glasses aside and faced the clerk at the counter. Big Glasses huffed and barely grabbed her Huge Bag before the toddler (who by this time was awake) landed on it. I have to admit to smiling at Big Glasses' reaction. Especially when I later learned that Big Glasses had ordered a dozen bagel sandwiches that took almost 20 minutes to prepare.The nerve of some people.... Oh and yes, I did get my marvelous bagel and coffee and Big Glasses faded into a distant memory.View Comments(0)
