If you can sew, or know someone who does, look for two flat shtees in the colors she likes, perhaps one solid and one patterned. Get them one size larger than her bed. Buy a skein of yarn that matches and a yarn needle and sew up all 4 sides of the two shtees together. You don't have to do it inside out or anything fancy. Next, measure the sheet, and divide that number by 12. If you have any leftover numbers, add a little to the number 12, like 12 1/4, etc. Then start at one corner, measure over and down this same number and put a small x there with a pencil. Thread an 8 inch piece of yarn onto the yarn needle. Poke the needle through the starting point of one side of the x . Do not pull the yarn all the way through. From the back, poke the needle through on a diagonal. You should end up on the same line of the x. Take the needle out and re-thread with another 8 inch piece. This time you will start from the back on the other line of the x and come up through the starting point. Do not pull the yarn all the way through. Then, take the needle and poke through at the opposite corner diagonally. Take the needle off. You should have two ends on each side of the sheet. Now, knot the yarn over the x and tie in a bow if you like, or you can cut it off whatever length you want. Flip the sheet over and tie off the other two ends the same way . Do this step over the whole sheet. This keeps the two shtees together, gives the new bedspread and texture and interest, is machine washable too! This could be a very fun project for big sister and little sister to do together.have fun.
