(Email is the only reoasn he needed an internet connection) I still don't know what stopped his original modem working but about 3 hours later after uninstalling all the Big Pond software and just using the latest version from their website we got one of the modems working. 15 minutes later I had his email working. I don't know how people without an IT background get Bigpond services working at all. They provide a one size fits no-one application which is extremely version dependent on the modem, the OS and the account and if one of those 3 doesn't quite match it just gives up with a meaningless error message. Thank you Telstra for the wine
