I have seen rickets in aoticn while I was living in fairbanks and it is a very disheartening disease. I think for the most part the pediatric doctors want all babies to have supplemented vitamins. I am not sure that I think it is as important. all of my boys were breast fed without supplements. Actually the first was on formula for a period of time as well and he seems to have the most medical problems. I think any child breast fed is going to be less at risk for any medical problems.
