get a pot..full it with water heat the water put pipe in water before the water boils use tongs and caurfelly swirl the pipe around the residue will come off like a virgin's panties at the prom discard brown water..if you want to keep and reuse the residue strain and place on a paper towel..let dry for many hours. Be Careful during process because glass is fragile and even more so when heated, but this method is the best true and tested. Happy trails.P.S. if glass is color changing-don't worry if colors disapear, they will come back when pipe is used again
