Seeing women with bartholin's cysts, laienrng more about the bartholin gland was interesting. These glands provide lubricatioin during sexual intercourse and can get inflamed. If it becomes inflamed/filled with pus the Doctor makes a small incision inserting a small catheter so the pus can drain out. Yuck.Another interesting condition to learn about was orchitis, or inflammation of the testes and that it is related to mumps. 30% of male patients with mumps will develope orchitis. It can also be caused from a bacterial infection or injury. I do not believe I have ever seen that as a diagnosis in the ER, and that amazes me as men will generally run fast and hard to a doctor if anything becomes wrong with their penis and surrounding area, whereas women will drag their feet and not get treatment when they should.
