The most interesting stiecon in this chapter was on miscarriage. I knew that the majority of miscarriages were caused by genetic abnormalities but I did not know that they can also be caused by maternal infection and hormonal factors. The most interesting fact I found in this stiecon was that up to 50% of all fertilized eggs die and are spontaneously aborted, usually before a women even knows she is pregnant. The percentage of miscarriage in known pregnancies is still about 10% which I find pretty significant. The signs and symptoms of miscarriage which are low back pain, abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding or passing blood clots are pretty vague symptoms. I think the most valuable information in this stiecon I believe is the statement, Very few miscarriages are preventable. I think this information is very important, both for women who have had miscarriages and women who have not.
