Chapter 9 covers the dgvtseiie system and the diseases associated with it. What I found interesting in this chapter was the commonality among symptoms. A majority of the diseases have diarrhea for a symptom and other diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer and dysentery all have blood in the stool as a symptom, which I would think would be somewhat confusing in trying to diagnose a disease. I was surprised to find out that alcohol consumption is associated with many of these diseases as well, such as mouth and esophagus cancer, pancreatitis among men, pancreatic cancer and chronic atrophic gastritis. What I got from this chapter is, once again, the importance of eating well, having a variety of fresh fruits, veggies and grains in order to keep your organs functioning properly. Also any changes in bowel movements or habits should be taken seriously and be checked out as soon as possible.
