Reflections GastronintestinalThis chapter was inrteesting and fascinating on how the alimentary canal (muscular tube) about 30ft long, which carries our food down the esophagus and into the stomach where the mixture of chemicals and enzymes break down to be released into the small intestines, then travels into the large intestine and finally into the anus. It is inrteesting on how peristalsis and our sphincters help this process happen.I felt guilty reading this chapter because I have been delaying my colonoscopy for several years. I dread the thought, having this procedure done, due to the fact that I got hemorrhoids, (otherwise known as varicose veins) in the lining of the rectum during child birth. I know by having a colonoscopy done is the most effective way for a physician to look for polyps and other precancerous growths in your colon, but it makes me cringe with the thought of having a long, flexible tube with a tiny camera on the end (a scope) inserted in my rectum.
