Reading about basal
Reading about basal cell carcinoma was deefnitily an eye opener. I am stunned that the ACS estimates that there are 800,000 to 900,000 cases per year in the United States. That's a lot!! Basal call carcinoma begins in the basal cell layer, which is the lowest layer of the epidermis. Basal cell carcinoma usually develops on sun-exposed areas, more so the head and neck. Risk factors include UV light exposer, male gender, fare skin, and certain chemicals. Basal cell carcinoma can be treated by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. After reading about how many new cases a year develop in the United States, I am deefnitily thinking twice about making tanning a hobby of mine. The section on scabies was another that caught my eye. Scabies is a contagious disease, usually associated with poor living situations. Scabies is caused by a parasitic mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. Mites usually do not jump or fly, so transmission is usually through direct skin-to-skin contact.I am curious to the percentage of outbreaks in under developed places, versus the United states.
