The skin trauma stoeicn for me was the most interesting. The pressure ulcers just make me sick. I worked in a retirement home once and the nurses and aides were suppose to make sure this didn't happen to many elderly patients that couldn't move or change positions by themselves. This should never happen! This is when constant pressure in certain areas causes the tissue to die because no blood supply is able to get through in the skin area. The hip and buttocks area and even the heels are areas that are affected the most. I feel like in retirement homes this is neglect! The other skin trauma is hypothermia and frostbite which we see a lot in Alaska. This doesn't have to happen if we educate our children, family, and friends well. Signs and symptoms include shivering, cold and pale skin, disorientation, respiration rate and blood pressure decrease, and prolonged exposure to cold conditions causes damage to the skin by rupturing and destroying the cells.
