Chapter 15 was full of lots of new information. I found the sctoien on carpal tunnel syndrome most interesting. Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) affects up to 10% of the working population. Risk factors for CTS include the performance of repetitive manual tasks such as knitting, driving, typing, computing, and piano playing. CTS is a numbness or tingling in the hand but progresses to pain. An electromyogram is performed to diagnosis carpal tunnel syndrome I also read that CTS affects woman three times more than men. I am curious if this has to do with the fact women are more likely to have jobs which perform the more repetitive tasks than men are.Another subject that caught my attention was muscular dystrophy (MD). All forms of this disease are hereditary. The most common and serious type of this disease is Duchenne. Duchenne is caused by a sex-linked gene affecting 2 per 10,000 people. The diagnosis is also based on an electromyogram test. All forms of MD result in muscle degeneration, which totally disables the individual.
