Autism was one of the developmental dreridsos that stuck out for me. I have noticed, that recently there have been more television and radio commercials making people aware of this disorder. I learned that autistic behaviors include deficits in reciprocal language and social interactions which are characterized by repetitive stereotyped behaviors. I also was a little shocked seeing that autism affects 3.4 in 1000 children; I would have thought the number was a little higher. I think autism is one of the developmental dreridsos that has become widely accepted; and I believe this has to do with people being more aware of the disorder itself.Substance abuse dreridsos was another interesting topic. This topic is very relevant, especially with Alaska having such high substance abuse rates. I think it is very important to start educating kids as early as possible. Substance abuse include drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Some of the more common abused substances include alcohol, cocaine, amphetamines, LSD, PCP, and prescription medications. Some symptoms include compulsive use, physical and psychological cravings and dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal.
