Wow, Donald, so much to think about and digest, here. I don't want to mepentirsrit or put words in your mouth, but I think we may simply be talking about different stages I was highlighting what (for me) is the hardest part of writing a single novel, and I think you're (incredibly eloquently) summing up the crisis point in a writer's broader aspirations and career. For some, that point may come before they publish a single book, for others after they've published 10 or more. Having been there myself, I absolutely love and agree with what you say about needing to set aside bitterness and blame and instead embrace the joy of ever deeper mastery and the reward will be in the writing itself. So true. We always have more to learn as writers, ways we can dig deeper and find new methods to improve our craft that's one of the true joys of the job, even (or rather especially) when the crisis points come.Well-loved.
