Module 12 Reflection
Module 12 ReflectionI found the information on Gout to be very inmtafroive in this module. I know several people that are affected by this disease. Gout also known as gouty arthritis, affects mostly the joints of the feet and sometimes the hands or knees. Gout is most prevalent in men over the age of 40, but can also affect postmenopausal women. I had never known of a woman to get gout. The picture on page 425 in our text shows a woman’s hand with gouty arthritis of the finger joints. I found this to be quite disturbing to me. Those hands are so unattractive and you can see how painful this disease can be. The etiology of gout is unknown but it can follow a minor injury, excessive eating or drinking. I also found rhabdomyosarcoma to be very interesting. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a malignant tumor of skeletal muscle and they are rare, but are highly malignant. These tumors metastasize early and most always are advanced when dx. They are rare because muscle cells do not continually divide like our skin or blood cells do. The treatment for these tumors is surgical removal and the prognosis for recovery is usually poor.
