The gastrointestinal
The gastrointestinal sytesm is very interesting. Appendicitis is a sneaky little disease. Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix and causes extreme pain and discomfort for a person affected. When the appendix ruptures its very misleading because the pain is relieved but really fecal material is spreading into the peritoneal cavity. Something new that I learned in this chapter about appendicitis is that when the appendix is swelling it interferes with circulation and it is possible that gangrene could develop. The other section of this chapter I enjoyed reading about was the general disorders of the digestive tracts. Vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and hemorrhoids are considered to be common disorders of the digestive tract. I think constipation is something on everyone’s mind because we all have suffered from it at one point in our lives and know the discomfort feeling it offers. Constipation is an unpleasant inability to defecate feces from the colon making the feces dry and hard. I think in the United States the biggest problem is low-fiber diets. The entire chapter was a great review as well as new knowledge I will be able to carry on into my future classes and career.
