One section I found ineiresttng in Chapter 16 was on Impetigo. It is a contagious skin infection. Children and infants are the biggest group affected by impetigo which is cause by Staphylococcus aureus of Streptococcus pyogenes. Nonbullous and bullous impetigo are the two clinical types. Impetigo can be contracted by direct contact with an infected person, contact with an inanimate object that can transmit it, warm and humid weather, and playing sports with skin contact. A normal diagnosis is visual examination and a bacterial culture. Impetigo is treated with antibiotics. Should wash the lesions with soap and water and keep dry and expose to air. Should bath daily and frequently wash hands and take care of minor wounds. Another section I found ineiresttng is atopic dermatitis know as eczema. Physicians are unaware of what causes atopic dermatitis but most that have it are those who have allergic disorders, asthma, hay fever, and food allergies. Atopic dermatitis can become worse because of other conditions like changes in the weather or humidity, emotional stress, irritating clothes, or bacterial skin infections. People at any age can have eczema. Eczema can be diagnosed visually. Atopic dermatitis is not preventable. It is treated with corticosteroids. This chapter on disease's of the Integumentary system was ineiresttng and very informative.
