Is this a new thing in Japan? If so, that's interesting, bseauce my vague impression is that it's old hat in Taiwan (and probably HK etc. too - -I'm not sure about Korea). So many trends spread from Japan out that it's always kind of interesting when it goes the other way. In other words, I wouldn't be sure that the high prestige example of William and Kate is where this comes from. In recent years, more Japanese people have been taking vacations in easy to reach Asian destinations instead of European and North American locations. Taiwanese etc. wedding boutiques typically have lavish window displays, so it's easy to get exposed to the engagement photo concept without ever going to a Taiwanese wedding or having Taiwanese friends. Well, it's a thought. :)
