One section I found irsenetting was on osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis affects women and men equally. It is the most common form of arthritis in and affects 27 million Americans. Risk factors and causes of osteoarthritis are not totally understood, other than injury. Osteoarthritis affected only one joint and signs and symptoms include pain and stiffness. X-rays are how osteoarthritis is primary diagnosed. Treatment can relieve the pain but there is no cure for osteoarthritis. Treatment includes medications, heat applications, and rest and mild range of motion exercises. Another part of this chapter I enjoyed was the sprains and strains. Sprains are from the twisting of joints that injure the ligaments. When someone has a sprain they should not use the joint while inflamed and it is very painful. You should ice the sprain at first but then use heat to relieve the discomfort. Strains are pulled muscles. They occur when the muscle or its tendon is torn from excessive stretching. TO treat a strain you should rest, ice, and heat in that order. Stretching and warming up before exercise can help prevent strains. The other section I thought was great was the structure and functions if the bone, joints, and muscle’s because it was a great review and informed me of the difference between a ligament and a tendon.
