There were many interesting tocips mentioned in this chapter. Most interesting to me was learning about how transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), which are warning signs to a stroke, otherwise “mini†strokes. Transient ischemic attacks are results from a blood clots that are interrupting the blood flow, which my result in tingling sensations and some loss of feelings in the face or arms, hand, legs and feet. Narrowing of the blood vessels or small emboli (blood clot) can also be a cause for a mini stroke. Attacks may last from under a minute and up to 15 minutes. A CT scan is needed for proper diagnosis along with medications to thin your blood. Some of us have experience a blow to head which may have resulted in a concussion. I was thrown off a motorcycle when I was ten years old and suffered a concussion. I don’t remember how it happened and don’t even remember how I got to the hospital. Symptoms to a concussion are when your pulse rate was weak, nausea and dizziness. Suffering a concussion needs to be monitored closely due to a coma could be life threatening. A CT scan may be needed to see if there is bleeding in the brain. Prevention is to rest and try not to get hit in the head again.
