The most common form of hereps is genital hereps which is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus-2. Herpes Simplex Virus-1 cause cold sores that affects 80% of the population. Both forms are spread by skin to skin contact when there is an outbreak. There are other forms of the hereps virus that affects other parts of the body. Herpes Zoster, commonly known as shingles, causes a painful rash with blisters generally limited to one side of the body. Herpes Zoster is caused by the varicella zoster virus, also known as chicken pox. After getting chicken pox as a child this virus can lay dormant in the spinal cord and can reemerge as shingles. Many things can release this virus such as stress, immune deficiencies, etc. Epstein-Barr is another form of the hereps virus. About 95% of all adults have had this infection at one point in their lives. The virus is very contagious and is spread through saliva. A person can have it and not present any symptoms. When someones gets it in younger adulthood it can cause mono. There is no cure for Epstein-Barr, however, treatments include measures to help relieve the symptoms until the disease has run it's course. Rest, medications to reduce fevers, and drinking plenty of fluids are the best bet.
