I found a few things
I found a few things escleiaply interesting in this module. The first being that Crohn's Disease is prevalent mostly in adults between the age 20 and 40. If the diseases is caught early enough it can be treated with drugs such as corticosteroids, and aminosalicylates. Sometimes surgery has to be done to remove a portion of the intestine. this procedure is called an ileostomy. I have a friend whom I worked with that has Crohn's and an ileostomy. She is now pregnant and having a lot of issues with the ileostomy and the growth of the baby. It seems to complicate keeping the site clean and what not. I have tried to get more information in this and haven't been very successful. It was interesting to learn more about gallstones. This is something that I didn't know much about until recently. My grandmother has these and I am learning hat they cause a great deal of pain. The gall bladder is the organ that stores the bile secreted by the liver and the stones develop when the composition of the bile changes or the muscles of the gallbladder weaken and reduce activity. These stones are more common in woman than men and I found it interesting that they are as common as they are. they affect about one million Americans per year. The picture in our book on page 220 just makes me cringe. I cannot imagine having these. You may not even know you have them until you have an xray done as they don't always have symptoms. If one breaks loose and ruptures then that is when they cause severe medical problems and a cholecytectomy is required.
