This was a pretty tough chtepar to read through and look at the pictures, my family is going through a stomach bug right now. It was really interesting to read through though, a couple things caught my eye. One was scabies, which is commonly called the itch is a contagious skin disease usually associated with poor living conditions. Scabies occurs most frequently in homeless people. Scabies is caused by the parasitic mite Sarcoptes scabiei. Mites are able to jump to fly; therefore transmission is predominantly through direct skin-to-skin contact. ehh scary! Indirect contact through fomites such as infected bedding or clothing is possible, although not usual. Scabies can survive up to 4 days off the human body (ewww). Female mite burrows into skin folds in the groin, under the breasts, and between fingers and toes. As she burrows she lays eggs in the tunnels, and the eggs hatch. Eww this grossed me out the most. Treatment includes scabicidal medication. You have to wash all your laundry, bedding ect. in hot water exceeding 131 *F for more than 5 minutes and machine drying. The second thing that was interesting was warts or verucca vulgaris, which are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV infection of keratinocytes causes them to froliferate, forming a benign neoplasm with a rough, keratinized surface. Warts are spread by direct contact with HPV. Warts are most common at sites of trauma, such as hands, feet, and probably result from inoculation of virus into minimally damaged areas of epithelium. Some types of warts are plantar, flat, filiform and periungual. Warts are diagnosed by visual examination. Warts can be removed by medications, electrocautery, cryosurgery, and laser surgery. To prevent HPV infections, avoid touching warts, walking barefoot on warm moist surfaces, and incurring trauma to skin.
