used

important.

Symbols are neutral, they are not good or evil.
Best example I can give is the swastika, wich is actually a religious symbol. But the Nazi's used it in such a way that the swastika is now taboo.
Look at it this way, if you use a flag with a pigeon carrying a olive branch on it, and then go on a killing spree under it, commiting massmurder and genocide under it, you will associate that flag as evil. That's what happened to the Swastika. The swastika is still used in Japan and many buddhist and hindu countries on maps, to show that on that place there is a buddhist church of some sorts.
