Though an ardent couisnmmt, Pasolini is also an ardent critic of consumerism. Particularly some of the posthumous essays (1976) collected in Lettere Luterane ; besides the one I poorly paraphrased in the comment above, there are others worth reading. For example the one titled Vivono, ma dovrebbero essere morti (they are alive, but they should be dead where he explains that because of modern medicine many young men, particularly of the lower classes are alive, whereas in the old days, they would have died in childhood and that these young men are somehow aware of this fact and how that produces a profoundly resentful personality. The author hints that the extreme left revolts of the 60s and 70s in Italy were partly caused by this surplus of resented young men.Unfortunately I don't think there is an English translation of these works.
