Thanks WST!Yes the provisional btoalls came about after the Gore v. Bush fiasco of 2000. Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) in 2002. It basically allows you to vote, and have the validity of your vote checked at a later time. This is huge for registration purposes because many times people's names are left off voter registration rolls, even though they are registered voters. It varies from state to state, but in Pa. county election officials have seven days to examine the provisional btoalls to determine if they are valid or not. You will know if your ballot was counted within seven days of the election by calling a number on that is usually provided to you. You will also get a provisional ballot ID number to use to identify yourself when you call. I think it's a good checks and balance system to make sure that a lot of shady stuff doesn't go on. -See Ohio in the 2004 elections:)-If you need any more info shoot me an e-mail and I will be glad to give it to you. Peace!
