I've been going through that series for a few years now (I read others between them, plus I read slowly).
Couple of the books didn't grab me strongly, I actually almost didn't go on with it because the first one I found rather dull (until towards the end), but the second one I found amazing (but don't let me over sell it to you).
I had started the (then) last one, VII, but I think I'll have to start it again, I wasn't too far through when I got distracted...and now there's another book coming out, I think you can get it now, but it's officially out next month. I'm not sure if it's completely in the series or more of a side story set in the same 'world'...which actually reminds me, King sort of jumped the shark a little in book VI (in my mind anyway), I had forgotten about that, it's okay though...
So yes, do read.
