So, we've been borrowing my Grandmother's car since her stroke. She's been unable to drive, and for Christmas Dad decided to gift us with the car. Great, except Matt hasn't had time to go to DMV with Dad to finish the process.
Today Matt hits the neighbor's parked car at 8:22AM. The sun was in his eyes and he caught the edge of their bumper. Their bumper has a dent. Our car's front end is smashed in. On top of that, Dad let the insurance lapse on the car. It wasn't insured, and we're begging our insurance to cover the incident because, otherwise, we're paying for the bumper damage out of pocket.
We've pretty much already decided to go back to being a one-car family for now and let the car go. It's a 1997 Kia Sephia. Not worth it to get the thing repaired.
Oh, and Matt's Driver's License expired on his birthday. He tried to renew online, but you can't do that within a week of it being due. He tried to go on his birthday, but the DMV was closed. He tried to go yesterday but had the wrong identification. So, this morning, he got his ticket from the nice Police Officer for driving without a valid license.
It was a rough day. I've been blessed by God to have His calm through most of it. I nearly cried when the officer gave Matt his Summons, but otherwise kept it together. A car is a car. I'm just glad Matt's ok. We can work through anything else.
So, I'm really ready for 2011 to be over. My grandmother had a stroke. My mother nearly had a heart attack. My sister-in-law and Mom's cars were totalled by a tree that fell during a hurricane. Same tree punctured the roofs of the house and shed. I got swindled out of $75 that same week. We lost three cars this year to engine explosions, RIP Lil Blue, the Silver Carolla and the Explorer. And now we lost a car to a crash just outside our front door.
Goodbye 2011. SO glad you're almost over. I'm ready to make a new start in 2012.
