We have cyclones (same thing as a hurricane..) here in Australia all the time. They typically wipe out the banana crops in Queensland on a regular basis which is why they're worth their weight in gold at the moment.
You even have to have your house built to 'cyclone standards' if you live up north, which means by the time you've finished meeting the strength and reinforcement regulations, the cockroaches will at least have somewhere to live after the nuclear war happens... they're effectively bomb-proof.
I colour stuff...
