Traditionally, there's a touch of nerves in my belly when it comes to auditions. Not really tonight. I got a little annoyed, sure, but there were no nerves. Our local theater is doing a review-style show, and it's a parody of Broadway. I love Broadway. I love humor. I love this theater. Of all the local little theaters, it is my favorite and I would consider it my home base. I've only done one show there, but grew up seeing shows there, including one my Daddy did back when I was a teenager.
It wasn't a huge crowd tonight. Maybe 12 of us auditioning, but there's been one night already (for those in other shows, out of town, etc) and there are two more. So, that wasn't unusual. I sang my song I'd chosen: "I Have a Love" from West Side Story. In retrospect, I'm glad I only did the 23 measures. That is HIGH and the echo in the audition room was horrible. I couldn't find my last note. I THOUGHT I was on the right note, but wasn't positive with all the echoing. Awful, awful acoustics in the green room (but the stage is undergoing renovations, so we couldn't do it in there).
They had me sing two of the parody songs. One I had a BLAST with and was fairly familiar. The other? Not so much. I tried to get through, though, and it seems the director thought I could pull off that part before hearing me sing and doing the monologue. No clue what he thinks now. LOL.
Between my songs and my monologue, I found out they are only casting 6-8 men and 6-8 women. That's a smaller cast for me. I've been in GIANT casts up to this point. However, if I get it, that also means the possibility of really getting to show what I can do. And that... that would be amazing.
So, we start hearing back Late Wednesday and Friday on whether or not we made it in. I'm hopeful. I love this theater. I'm excited about the show, and I'm itching to perform again. I've not been in a show since I was Gertie in Oklahoma back in October. It's August. I need another show. :P
