I find it surreal that we ended up together. It did take him rather a long time to catch on, but I wore him down eventually.
Nevermind the neds, wait until you get into the rural areas! Or, frankly, large parts of Glasgow. Or Aberdeen - it's like Switzerland round there, they all speak Aberdonian and then switch to something more understandable when talking to outsiders. As in, people from the rest of Scotland...
I used to find it really funny when I lived on the border - the very moment you get into Scotland, here comes the accent! I suspect it's a conscious demonstration of nationality - it actually gets a bit softer as you get away from the border again.
I work for the BBC, in the television side of things. I take care of the programme timings (making sure we go on air at the right time, don't run over or finish early etc) as well as copyright and some boring admin stuff.
