The new Star Trek was really a very very good reboot. Rick Berman and Brannon Braga had kind of destroyed it and it was good to see JJ Abrhams get pissed of and say I can do better than that, and he did. Watched the behind the scenes and they put an enormous amount of effort in to reviewing available material, talking with the original cast that are still alive and really had a good long chat with Leonard Nimoy about his version of Spock and why Spock is as he is today. All of this really made the entire movie a masterpiece as far as I am concerned, I've watched it a few times now and all the little TOS references are there, the attention to detail is brilliant. It also doesn't discount what happened in Enterprise either, so that is a big thing for a movie to do, Scotty saying he tried to transwarp beam Archer's Beagle. :)
Reboots can work, and in some instances can be much better. Take Edward Norton as The Hulk, I though this was a thousand times better than Eric Bana's Hulk movie.
