...since when were colorants ever considered unsafe? No one's actually had an illness or died from colorants!
...but I have read newspaper articles where people have gotten seriously ill from from eating foods containing certain kinds of food coloring. I can't link to any but I guarantee you that my memory is perfectly fine in this case. I think the red used in the shells of MMs turned out to be fairly toxic to certain kids, of course that was a long time ago, and obviously MMs no longer contain that dye.
